MLP team February update
Welcome to the February edition of your MLP team update.
January was as busy and exciting as ever! From investment events and award wins to birthday celebrations and first-time home purchases, the month was filled with milestones and achievements.
Read on to catch up on all the latest updates from the MLP team.
Waverton shared their latest insights
Waverton Investment Management, one of our top investment providers, hosted an event where they shared their latest market insights.
All the MLP Advisers and technical team attended to stay informed on current market trends and to ensure we’re providing the best possible advice to our clients.
Here’s what we learned.
Interest rate expectations
Markets are anticipating a few rate cuts in 2025 on top of the recent one in February.
There’s potential for UK rates to fall more quickly than expected.
The US economy is looking stronger than the UK.
Bond markets – lower risk
UK and US government bonds are currently attractive.
Riskier corporate debt offers limited rewards.
Equity markets – higher risk
Is the S&P500 overvalued? Overall, yes as the top companies make up a large portion of the index.
However, the rest of the market doesn't appear overvalued. There are still excellent opportunities in specific sectors.
High-risk investments like Nvidia may not be worth it, given better options with stronger fundamentals.
Results
Waverton continues to outperform its peers.
Passive or active investing? Waverton outperforms Vanguard's passive life strategies, proving active management is still valuable. This conclusion is backed up by MLP’s own independent research.
It was a fantastic event in a great location. Thanks to Waverton for the insightful event.
Quilter has won another award!
We’re delighted to announce that Quilter has been ranked by Defaqto as the most recommended adviser platform for value. This recognition is based on data from Defaqto Engage, which is a leading research software in the financial sector.
At MLP, we rely on Quilter’s comprehensive financial services platform as it helps us manage our clients’ portfolios easily and efficiently.
A huge congratulations to everyone at Quilter – keep up the fantastic work!
We’re hiring
Our industry is facing a significant challenge – the average age of a Financial Planner is 58, and more than 60% are either retiring or considering retirement within the next five years.
This highlights the urgent need for a new generation of talented Financial Planners and Advisers to step up. It also opens up an exciting opportunity for those looking to build a rewarding career in this field.
We’re currently offering an excellent opportunity for the right candidate(s) to join our team as a Trainee Financial Planner. With clear career progression, a supportive and dynamic team, streamlined processes, and an established client bank, everything is in place for you to thrive.
Joining us also means you’ll play a key role in our expansion, opening up even more opportunities for growth and development.
Have a look at the role and our other job openings on our website, and if it sounds like the right fit for you, don’t hesitate to apply – or share this with anyone you think may be interested.
We celebrated Paul’s birthday
We recently celebrated Paul’s birthday, and beyond the cake and card, we took the opportunity to reflect on all the wonderful contributions he brings to the business. And who better to share these insights with us than his business partner and younger brother, Seán?
We asked Seán what the valuable life and business lessons he has learned from Paul over the years are, and here’s what he had to say:
Don't overthink things
Ensure your letters and emails are well written
Trust your intuition
Take time off if you need it
Don’t put too much pressure on yourself
Remember to be patient.
Happy (belated) birthday, Paul! Keep up the amazing work and continued dedication to the MLP family. Here’s to many more years of success, growth, and being a great older brother!
James bought his first home
We’re excited to share the news that James, one of our Advisers, has just bought his first home with his girlfriend, Morgan. A huge congratulations to them both!
To celebrate, we couldn’t resist singing Happy New Home to the tune of Happy Birthday to mark the good news.
Wishing them all the best as they start this exciting new chapter!
See you next time!
We hope you’ve enjoyed reading about what the MLP team has been up to. Look out for our next update coming soon.
